Coaching Bio:

Coach Mathews’ family includes wife Cathy, four adult children, and four grandchildren ages 9, 7, 7, and 2 months.  Athletics, especially baseball, and academics, have always been at the forefront of my life since childhood. I knew at a very young age that if couldn’t make it as a professional athlete, I wanted to be a teacher and coach.  Thus, my philosophy…it’s great to have big dreams, but at the same time be realistic and realize the importance of education and what it can do for your future.  I came to Jefferson to teach and coach in 2008 from “across the river” (Coach Nordgren always tells me I look much better in blue than in red).  I have truly enjoyed my time as a J-Hawk as both a teacher and a coach, the students, athletes, fellow coaches and teachers, have made me “Proud To Be A J-Hawk”!
