The Varsity J-Hawks began the week 2-0 as they traveled to Iowa City and defeated the Little Hawks 6-2 and 5-1. Spencer Van Scoyoc took the win in the first game throwing 5 innings, giving up 2 runs and none earned while striking out 10. He had quite a day at the plate going 2-3 in the first game with two doubles. Jared Eivins came in relief and finished the final two innings with no runs allowed. Brayden Frazier continued his hot streak going 4-4. Two was a lucky number for him, as he accumulated two singles, two doubles, two runs, and two RBI's. Tyler Konigsmark also did well as he went 2-4 with a single, double, and two runs scored.
The second game was a close matchup through most of the game. The Little Hawks kept it close through the first 6 innings. Connor Van Scoyoc started the second game and tossed a complete game, giving up a single run through 7 innings. Offensively, Spencer Van Scoyoc finished his day at the plate going 2-3 again with two singles and a run. Manny Olutunde started the second game hitting 1-2. He showed off his speed as he provided two runs, a walk, and a stolen base. Colton Knox hit 2-2 with a single, double, RBI, a walk, and a stolen base as well. Meanwhile, the J-Hawks had a great game in the field, particularly shortstop Lucas Larson playing several ground balls off tough hops. The J-Hawks commited no errors and cleaned up the Little Hawks to improve to 5-1 in conference play.
The Varsity J-Hawks play 4 more games this week, including a game versus Pleasant Valley on the road Tuesday, a home game versus Davenport West Wednesday, and finishing with a conference doubleheader against Dubuque Wahlert on Friday.
