Playing under the lights at Veteran's Memorial Stadium, the J-Hawk pitching did its job Friday night in a 5-0 win over the Cedar Rapids Washington Warriors. Senior Tyler Konigsmark pitched 5 shutout innings, striking out 4. Jarred Wood and Caleb Stekl would throw an inning each, preserving the team shutout. The 1st and 2nd innings contained the most excitement as the J-Hawks jumped on the Warriors early. Jared Eivins led off with a single to center to set the tone. Spencer Van Scoyoc, Lucas Larson, Tyler Roeder, and Cam Frazier all followed with solid singles up the middle. The J-Hawks scored 4 in the 1st and 1 more in the 2nd. Fortunately, the J-Hawks played solid defense. Jacob Beaton made his first start in Left Field and caught a curving line drive, while Tyler Davidson came in to catch the 7th inning and blocked well. After throwing out a stealing runner in the 6th, Caleb Stekl pitched the 7th inning. Although loading the bases, Stekl finished the game and struck out 2. Tyler Fowler would also make his first varsity appearance as a courtesy runner in the game.
The J-Hawks improved to 6-3, and 3-1 in the conference after a solid 4-1 week. The J-Hawks will be back in action Monday. They travel to Iowa City to play the City High Little Hawks in a conference doubleheader.
