The Varsity J-Hawks had a busy two days playing both Waterloo West and Waterloo East in doubleheaders on Thursday and Friday.

Thursday's scores were 11-0 and 11-1. Connor Van Scoyoc got the win in 5 innings striking out 7 and allowing just one walk. Caleb Stekl added two hits, while Jared Eivins drove in three runs. Nick Storm put the nail in the coffin with his first Varsity hit in the bottom of the fourth driving in the 11th run for the J-Hawks and ending the game in 5 innings by 10 run rule. In game two, Jarred Wood threw 5 innings striking out 6 batters giving up only one run to earn the win. Tyler Roeder finished the game with an efficient 6th inning. Lucas Larson went 3-3 with 3 runs scored while Brayden Frazier and Colton Knox also added a pair of hits. Senior pinch hitters getting their first varsity at-bats continued to steal the show. Steven Carlson found his way on base with an infield hit. Jacob Barrera hit a groundball to score a run. With Carlson on second, Tylor Phillips came to bat and hit a sharp single up the middle. Coach Rodenkirk waved Carlson on home to score, and although beat by a few steps, Carlson slid and knocked the ball out to score the 11th run of the game and end the game by 10 run rule.

On Friday, Jefferson won both games by scores of 14-0 and 12-2. Jared Eivins shut out the Trojans in game 1, striking out 4. Eivins made the offense go all game, going 3-4 with 4 RBI's and 2 doubles. Larson went 3-3 with a run, and Brayden Frazier added 3 runs. Reid Griffith and Connor Carlson both saw their first Varsity at-bats and nearly ended the game early, hitting hard balls but just right at fielders. Colton Knox started the second game tossing 4 strong innings. The Trojans scored only 2 unearned runs. Tyler Konigsmark finished the game pitching one inning and striking out two. Tyler Roeder had a great game going 3-3 with 3 runs, 4 RBI's and 2 doubles. Lucas Larson continued to close in on the Jefferson High School Career Assists record adding 4 more on the night, and is 7 away from owning the record.

The J-Hawks will enjoy their 4th of July, but will prepare for their matchup against the Kennedy Cougars on Monday at home. The Sophomore game will begin at 5:00 with the Varsity following, sometime around 7:00. Substate pairings will officially be released on Monday. Happy 4th of July!
