Heavy rain throughout Monday postponed the J-Hawks doubleheader with Dubuque Hempstead to July 13th. On Tuesday, Head Coach Kyle Rodenkirk and Assistant Gordy Nordgren, along with the grounds crew of Allen Stekl and Alex Bendlage, spent much of the day draining the outfield of water in preparation for tonight's game. Their efforts were successful, as the J-Hawks took the field against a solid North Scott Lancers ballclub. Tyler Konigsmark charged the hill and came in pumping strikes. He sat down the first 8 batters he faced supported by an overwhelmingly strong defense. Catcher Caleb Stekl would pick off a runner in the third to keep Konigsmark at the minimum through three innings. Although facing trouble several times in the fourth, fifth, and sixth, groundouts to thirdbaseman Jared Eivins would end each rally. Sam Meyer would finish the game, as Konigsmark earned the win. The J-Hawks opened up the scoring in the third, batting around and pushing across 5 runs. They took advantage of defensive errors by the Lancers by bunting and moving runners complimented with RBI hits by Lucas Larson and Brayden Frazier. Another run would score in the fifth inning after a leadoff double by Tyler Roeder, his second of the game, assisted by a sac fly RBI for Frazier, his third RBI of the game. The J-Hawks defeated the Lancers 6-1, now 17-4 overall.
The JV J-Hawks struggled, falling 17-0 in a quick game. Jacob Beaton had the lone hit, along with a stolen base. Tyler Roeder through a shutout first inning on the mound.
The J-Hawks play Wednesday night in a home doubleheader against Waterloo West. The first game will begin at 5:00.
